Visit to Saint Gabriel’s College Boosts Chinese Language Education Cooperation
A delegation from Confucius Institute at Assumption University (CIAU) paid an official visit to Saint Gabriel’s College on March 5, 2026, aiming to deepen collaboration in Chinese language education and explore new avenues for academic and cultural exchange. The visit underscores the two institutions’ shared dedication to advancing Chinese language learning and international educational partnerships between Thailand and China.
The meeting was attended by senior representatives from both sides, including Rev. Bro. Dr. Achin Tengtrakul, Vice Principal of Saint Gabriel’s College; Dr. Kitti Phothikitti, Vice President of Assumption University; Dr. Khongrit Chatpathomrak, Thai Director of CIAU; Mr. Zhao Peiqin, Chinese Director of CIAU; and faculty members from the Institute.

Deepening Chinese Language Education Cooperation
During the discussion, both parties reviewed key areas of cooperation, including Chinese curriculum design, teacher professional development, Chinese proficiency testing, and study‑in‑China programs.
Saint Gabriel’s College presented its long‑term strategy to build a systematic Chinese language curriculum spanning Grades 1 to 12, alongside specialized Chinese‑focused tracks at the senior high school level. These efforts are designed to enhance students’ linguistic competence and academic preparedness for higher education.
A central pillar of the partnership is promoting student participation in internationally recognized Chinese proficiency tests, namely the HSK and YCT. The two sides also agreed to strengthen educational resource sharing and joint faculty development to support the sustainable growth of local Chinese language education.

Expanding Academic Opportunities and Cultural Exchange
The institutions also explored scholarship schemes for outstanding students to pursue further studies at Assumption University and top universities in China. Eligible fields of study include engineering, sciences, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and satellite technology.
In addition, both sides plan to launch joint cultural and educational activities, such as Chinese language camps, cultural immersion programs, Chinese speech contests, and Chinese singing competitions. These initiatives are expected to stimulate student enthusiasm for Chinese language learning while fostering closer people‑to‑people ties between Thailand and China.
Laying a Solid Foundation for Future Collaboration
Both sides agreed that the growing momentum of Thailand-China educational exchange offers extensive potential for long-term cooperation in Chinese language education and academic innovation.
The visit has strengthened mutual trust and understanding, laying a solid foundation for future joint efforts in curriculum development, student mobility, scholarship programs, and cross-cultural education initiatives.
